In June of last year we decided to offer a free, no obligation PPC health check to potential clients. This offer had an extremely positive response and has certainly kept our paid search team on their toes ever since. Recently we have been reviewing our health checks and thought it would be useful to share the most common issues and problems highlighted by our reviewal work.
The health checks were carried out on a wide range of businesses in various sectors, all with very different budgets, strategies, and campaign objectives. Each of the health checks was written by senior members of our PPC team and from revisiting them, it is clear that each of them were wasting significant amounts of budget. From our analysis we believe that on average, approximately 34 pence in every pound was being thrown away, with this figure rising to around 50 pence for every pound in more extreme cases!
We have also considered the vast majority of the campaigns reviewed to have been significantly under-serviced, irrespective of the budgets involved. The lack of time and attention dedicated to many of the accounts was certainly very eyeing opening for us! We appreciate that this exercise was completely subjective and our opinions are just our opinions, but we like to think that with 10 years of PPC experience we have a very solid understanding of what constitutes a strong PPC campaign, and in many cases we failed to see this.
Most of the health checks resulted in significant amounts of recommendations and alternative strategies for the client to consider however, our paid search team also had the pleasure of reviewing some very strong performing accounts that were well-structured and delivered excellent ROI's. Although these were very rare, it was nice to be asked to provide an impartial review and good to see a client pleased and relieved with our honest opinions!
