Facebook Exchange (FBX) has created a partnership with the search retargeting company, Chango that will totally change the landscape of their advertising. Chango, a 300 million search profile-strong company (with some information collated from Google results) will provide Facebook with stronger and more ‘useful’ data relating to the information users type into their browsers. Until now, Facebook’s targeted advertising has had limitations in terms of hitting users who intend to purchase certain products or services using a broader approach in their targeted advertising, appealing to such factors as demographic or geographic data. Facebook knew what you liked, but not necessarily what you wanted to buy.

Providing Facebook with search data is a significant step closer for Facebook in their web advertising domination; placing them as direct competitors of the big boys in this market, Google, Yahoo and Bing.

Intent data teamed with the extensive and enviable social data Facebook holds is a move that will no doubt make Google a bit worried and advertisers using Facebook Exchange very happy; the implications for users of course are that Social advertising will be better targeted than ever before.
