Facebook preparing mobile advertising platform

Already with over 800 million active users, Facebook is focusing heavily on mobile technology in 2012, according to two unnamed individuals cited in Bloomberg yesterday evening.

Facebook is putting together a mobile advertising offering that will be launched by the end of March 2012, consisting initially of sponsored stories ads, which feature individuals’ Facebook interactions with brands in their peers’ news feeds.

With the increase of mobile technology, both smartphones and tablets, over a third of Facebook users already access the social network through their mobile devices. Currently, no ads are shown on Facebook’s mobile platform.

New York research firm EMarketer Inc. predict Facebook’s revenues to rise to as much as $6.9bn, up from an estimated $4.3bn this year. Like Google, the majority of their profits will come from advertising revenue, and it’s very likely that, like Google, mobile advertising will play a big part of next year’s income.

  1. If Facebook’s existing mobile apps for iPhone and Android are anything to go by I can’t imagine their mobile advertising platform is going to be anything more than average at best!

They need to make their apps and mobile service fully usable before they start trying to push advertising at people(!)

  3. I am from Nepal and I do Facebook ads too. But when knowing about the advertisement platform of Facebook i think its showing up some good results for the new websites too. Since most of the people login facebook from mobile there is no doubt that the results will be positive.
