Google-backed Moon Robot Teams Confirmed
The line-up of teams competing for the $30 million (£18.5m) robotic moon explorer prize have been finalised.
The builders of the first robot to send back a video as it travels over 500 metres of the moon surface will win the Google sponsored prize.
The competition involves 29 teams from 17 different countries fight for the Lunar X-Prize. The teams come from a wide range of backgrounds, including non-profit consortia, university groups and well-funded businesses.
The competition’s organisers are hoping to encourage the development of low-cost robotic space exploration. They also believe they could have a winner by the year 2015.
