Google has completed the $12.5 billion (£7.9bn) purchase of the USA phone maker Motorola Mobility.
Motorola is one of the leading manufacturers of smartphones and other devices.
This acquisition comes days after the search engine giant received approval from the Chinese government as is Google’s biggest purchase to date.
Authorities in China have said Google must keep Android free for other device makers for up to five years.
This takeover will allow Google to move into manufacturing phones and tablet computers. Google will also have access to over 17,000 of Motorola’s valuable patents.
The European Commission has also approved the deal. There was no suggestion of an issue with Android, saying it was unlikely Google would restrict the use of Android solely to Motorola.
US approval has been granted.
