Link Building: My Experience

This is my story of starting and finishing a Link Building Campaign at Receptional in Flitwick. I joined Receptional back in January of this year, in the role of Link Partnership Negotiator.

My job was to create as many links on footie sites during the World Cup on behalf of Paddypower (the bookmakers).  I come from a background in sales, having been in the property market  for over 15 years, so I was really excited about the campaign. It was something completely different for me and I will admit to feeling slightly daunted during my first few days! Maybe the hardest thing though was having to get up at 6.30am in the morning, as I live over an hour away from Flitwick!

An email campaign was discussed and the plan was to email as many footie sites as possible and to chase them and make them tempting deals until they agreed to place a link on their site! I had lots of interesting deals that I could use to persuade them.  One of these was an interchangeable Betting Widget which was pretty cool and was developed by Receptional. This featured the World Cup Betting Odds and the sites loved it! Another offer was Content Writing for the sites which again proved popular, with a few sites becoming regular users.  I would also hit the phones as well, speaking to Webmaster to try and sell yet more links.

Over the last 6 months I have emailed Webmasters from South Africa, Spain and Japan to America and  Ireland.  I built up a business contact with a great guy called Gorazd. He was from Slovenia and we had some interesting talks! The language barrier was fun but we always got there in the end! I also regularly emailed Lim in Japan, subject to time zones of course!!

Before this job I wasn’t aware of exactly how much goes into Link Building. It is a long road, but rewarding and fun too. I have been lucky to work for such a great company for the last 6 months and I have always been made to feel part of the team from day one. So my thanks go to everyone at Receptional for this opportunity. It has been cool and a great experience.
