Nokia has teamed up with Microsoft as they attempt to regain lost ground on the iPhone and Android-based devices.

The company said the deal will see Nokia using the Windows phone operating system for its smartphones.

This means Nokia’s current existing operating systems will be abandoned.

This partnership will result in “substantial” job losses according to Nokia’s chief executive, Stephen Elop.

Microsoft Bing will power Nokia’s search services, while Nokia Maps will be a core part of Microsoft’s mapping services.

No timeline has been set.
