On Friday, the privacy commissioner for the north German state of Schleswig-Holstein, Dr. Thilo Weichert said he would go after public and private sites featuring Facebook’s "Like" button.

The local data protection authority is worried that Facebook is collecting too much information from users, even from something as simple as clicking the "Like" button.

The agency could punish websites operating in Schleswig-Holstein with a fine of up to €50,000 (£43,000) should they continue using the "Like" button, or manage Facebook fan pages from the start of October.
