Why Online Marketing Is The Future

PayPal has recently released a very interesting report on online spending that predicts online shopping in Britain will rise from £8.9 billion to £21.3 billion in annual sales by the end of 2011. This forecast spend means every adult in the UK will be spending around £430 a year online (over double the current figure) and that £1 in every £14 will be spent online.

This maybe rather bad news for the high street but is most definitely very positive news for our industry and perhaps a wake-up call to those who are currently not using online marketing to it's full potential.

With heavy investment in broadband infrastructure nationwide and shift in consumer attitudes towards shopping online, and the way we shop online, it is high time that marketers wake up to the opportunities out there in order to engage targeted users whether it be by PPC, SEO, E-mail marketing, etc or ideally a combination of all these!

Some stats in line with your point...

I wrote an article about online marketing during a recession and came across some statisitics which are quite relevant to your blog post:

"42 million people are online in the UK alone (internetworldstats.com)

People in the UK spend, on average, 33 hours per month online (Com Score World Metrix)

£0.17p in every £1 spent in the UK is now online"

So between Tesco and the internet we can see where most people are spending their money!

So the internet beats Tesco?

I think Tesco are running at 14p/15p in the pound, so it's a win for the internet ;)

The research studies by many

The research studies by many organizations and individuals confirm the exponential growth of online marketing. Basic cause is internet makes it easy and simple for both the sellers and buyers(I mean companies and customers) by providing the service with little time. In my view, time and easiness of business make it a hit.
