Dell Makes $3 million from Twitter! What does this mean?

Last week we heard reports that Twitter is directly responsible for creating $3 Million worth of direct business for the computing giant Dell. How did they do this you may ask? Well, they did it by using the micro-blogging phenomenon Twitter correctly to offer interesting and worthwhile contact and information for customers and users interested in hearing what you have to say.

I'm not going to go through the in's and outs of exactly what they did as there is a multitude of articles around telling you this, becasue I'd like to focus on the implications of this in the respect of future social media strategies. All companies need some sort of Social Media Strategy. How you do this is the most important attribute of any Social Media Campaign. Ultimately, if you don't put the time in to understand how each Social Media platform works your Social Media Strategy will not work!

By being included in all avenues of Social Media as soon as they have come about Dell has managed to become familiar with them from the beginning and understand how to use them to their full potential, and their neat $3 Million in revenue from one Social Media avenue is the greatest example of 'lead in business, don't follow!'

The beauty of this whole situation is that the reported $3 Million in revenue would have been a complete profit! The cost of this marketing on Twitter would have cost nothing, other than a little time and effort and thinking of what and when to post / Tweet!

This all goes to show the great and worthwhile attributes that all companies should take head of when thinking about how to make the maximum profit in our flailing marketplaces where all around us opportunities are being missed to use the cheap and most often free Social Media Strategies.

Companies such as Dell have been forward thinking in their marketing and promotion strategies and have implemented Social Media while most other companies were uming and awing about the costs and how much they could make back. What needs to be taken from this example is the great opportunities that you can gain from putting a little hard work in to a Social Media campaign and the huge and profitable outcomes you can get from them.
