Google launches 'click-to-call' service in India

Google has announced the launch of a new advertising service in India.

'Click-to-call', in conjunction with search engine's advertising programme AdWords, will allow users to speak over the telephone to advertisers they find in search results pages for free.

Head of sales K Sundararaman said: "Click-to-call is in line with our mission of looking for new ways to help our advertisers reach their customers and will increase the usefulness of the internet for shoppers, merchants and advertisers in India."

He added the service would be particularly useful for companies without a website, or for those who use telephone directories to reach potential clients.

Click-to-call services can be recognised by a green telephone handset next to the advertisement.

Earlier this year, Google opened an online advertising branch in Gurgaon, advising clients on how to make the best use of its AdWords service.
