A Twitter account belonging to US broadcaster Fox News was hacked around 7.00 BST this morning and declared US President Obama dead.
The @foxnewspolitics feed read: "BREAKING NEWS: @BarackObama assassinated, 2 gunshot wounds have proved too much."
4 hours have passed and the malicious post has still not been removed.
The initial posting by the hackers read “Just regained full access to our Twitter and email. Happy 4th”.
The was followed by “@BarackObama has just passed. The President is dead. A sad 4th of July, indeed. President Barack Obama is dead”.
The Fox News Politics Twitter account is one associated with the US cable news network and carries the “verified” tick icon.
