The German government is targeting Google on privacy issues once again - this time Google Analytics is the case.

Privacy officials in Germany are concerned by Google Analytics tracking web users' IP addresses, thus violating an individual's privacy.

Google Analytics complies with European data protection laws and is even used by other European data protection authorities on their own websites.

In May 2010, Google issued a plugin that allows users to opt-out of Google Analytics.

This is not the first time German officials have brought up privacy issues with Google. German officials are still investigating collection of personal data over WiFi networks by Google, and have also forced Google to let residents opt-out of Street View before the service launched in Germany.
