Google offers targeted search ads for AOL marketers

Companies wishing to further target specific audiences will be able to use Google's AdWords facility to aim their marketing campaigns exclusively at AOL websites, it has been revealed.

As part of the AOL Search Marketplace service advertisers can target websites such as MapQuest and Moviefone.

President of AOL Media Networks Mike Kelly said: "Our advertising clients have told us they want the ability to target their search advertising to users of AOL Search and now with AOL Search Marketplace we can offer this service."

He added: "We have found that there is a significant impact when search and display campaigns are co-coordinated."

The service is to include the same range of features offered by the wider AdWords system and is reported to be the first time Google is allowing users the ability to target search advertisements on specific websites.

Last month, Google launched a pay-per-action advertising system in which firms only pay whenever a user carries out a specific action on their website, such as a product purchase or signing up to a newsletter.
