Online Sales Increasing While High Street Continues to Suffer

A new record was set in the UK in July 2009, 1 on 15 people in Britain made an online purchase and the figures are all looking towards even further growth of purchasing online. The Interactive Media in Retail Group's (IMRG) Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index Reports have come up with some surprising information which should persuade those who are not online, or are not concentrating their efforts to their online business to rethink this.   When you consider that online sales were up 16.8% from last year with high streets only showing a 3.3% increase for the same period, it becomes obvious where people are spending their money, Online!

Online shoppers spend a whopping £4.2billion online in July 2009 which is up 15.7% from the previous month, and in the first six months of 2009 while the high street was suffering with little or no growth; online sales totalled almost £23Billion. Internet Sales are seen to be increasing even more, with the wealth of choice and price's, sales and promotions available which high street retailers cannot compete with, as well as the prospect to buy anything you want online with great ease and safety.

While most companies are cutting their online spends to save cash, the smart online retailers are taking a large cut of the sales online. Companies with online sales capabilities need to be putting just as much influence in to their online practices as they are to their offline practices to maintain the growth that every company is striving for during the current recession. So rather than cut costs online, think about the opportunities that you have to use the internet wisely to be a part of this growth in sales and increase your online revenue.
