Advertisers given SEO tips

Companies looking to increase their search rankings through search engine optimisation (SEO) may wish to take advantage of some new advice.

Writing on the Link Building blog, Neil Patel suggests that by making title tags "short and descriptive they can help increase your rankings".

He claimed that the tags should be short and need to relate to content on website pages.

Mr Patel added advertisers should consider using headings on pages in a similar way to chapter titles in books as not only does it give a chance for firms to tell their audience what content is about but is "another opportunity to place keywords".

Companies were also advised to create a sitemap as this increases the likelihood of web pages being indexed.

Meanwhile, submitting websites to directories such as Yahoo! and DMOZ is a "great way" to gather relevant links and thus increase rankings.

Writing on Internet Search Engine Database earlier this week, Brandon Cornett suggested SEO can not only drive search rankings but also increase users' awareness of a particular brand.
