This post is a little test - which means this post is written and published on this page in two parts.
When this News story is first published, it will ping our usual systems to tell the world that there is new content online. The experiment is to see how long it takes the new search engine from Microsoft, "Bing" to index the post and let it show up in the search results.
At the same time, I'll be checking on the big "G" to see how long they take too.
When (If) we get a result in the next few hours, I'll come back to this post and give you the results.
Right... Ready... Publishing now... at 2:50 PM GMT on Friday 12th of June...
Will it be "Ping Bing... Ding Ding!" or "Ping Bing... Pong, Gone?"
See you soon....
It's 40 minutes later and a few comments below already.
As you can see... Bing wins!
Yahoo has just started to spider. Googlebot finished spidering 6 minutes after MSNbot.
Google has now caught up at 5:15 PM. They also have the Sphinn article, which may have been influential in the push into the index. No joy as yet with Yahoo.

How long does Bing take to index a page for the first time?
I made a blog inside sapo.pt which is the largest portal in Portugal and registered the sitemap at bing three days ago.
Bing (or google for that matter) didn't crawl the page yet, any ideas to accelerate the crawling & indexing of new sites/pages?
my blog is emprego-trabalho.blogs.sapo.pt

Here's how you can ping Bing
http://www.bing.com/community/forums/t/646967.aspx
Hope that link helps? Our system pings Bing and Google by default - so maybe that is why there is a difference between different people's experiences.
BING = But its Not Google - Bingo
I don't think that Bing will be successful until Microsoft sort out their indexing issues.
For example, sites that have almost all their pages indexed in Google have barely 20% indexed in Bing.
Therefore Bing is not seeing most of the web.
I wish Microsoft would sort this out - they have millions at their disposal and the brightest people working for them.
Ring a ding Bing
I've found this also when publishing new content online, Bing seems to be much more responsive.
So round 1 to Bing
I'm just guessing no sign of Slurp/Yahoo yet.
Slurp?
Slurp is probably not even out of bed yet ;)
I take it all back
Looks like slurp is actually sluggish rather than sleeping ;)

Bot activity
Well MS win the first search engine crawl anyway:

It wanted two bites too:

And here comes Google
