Felix Baumgartner Smashes YouTube Record

Skydiver Felix Baumgartner smashed the record for the largest number of live viewers amongst other records on Sunday with his dive from the edge of space.

More than 8 million people were tuned into the live stream on YouTube to watch the Austrian as he broke the speed of sound and the record for the highest freefall.

The capsule from which he feel was equipped with cameras to provide the live internet feed to which the millions tuned into around the world on Sunday evening GMT.

Mr Baumgartner jumped from his capsule from 128,100 feet (24 miles) above New Mexico, USA having been taken up so high by a giant helium balloon.

In the nine minute journey from capsule to earth, the Austrian was flying at an estimated speed of 833.9mph, hitting Mach 1.24.
