Twitter Hit by Technical Fault

Twitter became inaccessible for almost an hour yesterday on the eve of the start of that big event taking place in London over the next fortnight.

The micro-blogging site continued to suffer intermittent faults after.

The San Francisco, California-based company has said the interruption was caused by simultaneous failure in its main data centre and one supposed to provide backup.

Twitter.com is expected to be one of the most popular social networks used by fans during the sporting event.  Sporting events regularly attract the biggest audience.

When Spain won Euro 2012 earlier this month, over 15,000 Tweets were written ever second.

Investment over recent years has made Twitter more reliable compared to the downtime that plagued its early days.
