Twitter to offer brands Facebook-style pages

To increase advertising, Twitter is considering creating Facebook-style branded pages.

Twitter

Currently all brands can get are free accounts, or Promoted Accounts which allow the sponsoring of hashtags to appear in relevant searches. The pages will work in a very similar way to Facebook pages. Brands will have their own space to sell their page to Twitter users to encourage them to follow the brand.

If the branded pages do launch they will appear first in the US. Twitter launched ads on the platform back in 2010, Brands such as Starbucks were involved in the adverts, any opportunity like this is yet to launch in the UK

A spokesman for Twitter confirmed that ‘strong interest’ from brands meant it is now looking to set up a UK office. He declined to comment on specific advertising plans.
