A free wi-fi service has been launched today in central London’s West End.

A deal made between Westminster City Council and O2 means the service is available to all internet users, regardless of who their current provider is.  Users can get this free service after completing the registration process.

This free wi-fi network will initially be rolled out to Leicester Square, Oxford Street, Parliament Square, Piccadilly Circus, Regent Street and Trafalgar Square.

The service has been funded by O2, who are hoping to use targeted advertising to recover the costs.

By the end of this month, 80 London Underground stations are expected to have wi-fi access, but the rest will only be free during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
