Amazon launches online advertising
Under the move, marketers will be able to display their products and services on the world's largest internet retailer for the first time ever, reports Media Week.
In January 2006, the company took some limited advertising from Virgin.net, however a wide variety of firms will now be able to target Amazon users.
Although Amazon does not currently allow third-party advertising on its website, it is thought to gain some 40 per cent of its sales from affiliates.
Online marketing network eType is currently in talks with Amazon to host advertisements.
The ad system firm also supplies video marketing services for social networking websites such as Bebo, Hi5 and Piczo.
Earlier this week, a Nielsen/Netratings study indicated women aged 18 to 34 are spending more time online.
Spokesperson Alex Burmaster suggested that those firms who target this demographic "will maximise their chances of success in the internet of the future".
