New Microsoft search features may benefit advertisers
A host of new search features to be offered by Microsoft could be beneficial to internet advertisers wishing to further target their audiences.

One of the upcoming services set to be offered by the search engine giant will see users' search results be analysed next to information on their hard drives, reports the International Herald Tribune.

As a result, the service could allow users to develop internet searches catered to their own specific interests, news which is likely to be of interest to online advertisers looking to target certain audiences.

Search expert for Microsoft Susan Dumais, claimed that by analysing her computer hard drive the facility was able to recognise she was more likely to be interested in technology than sports, which then was indicated in her search engine results.

Microsoft's new Mix service is also set to help users organise their search results and share them with friends, a move which could help firms increase their incoming website links.

Consumers will also be able to filter search results based on what previous users looked for and how they changed their search words when they did not originally get the results they wanted.

Meanwhile, a number of new features offered by Google's AdWords 3.0 software could help internet advertisers further target their audiences by specifying which websites on the Google network they wish their advertisements to appear on.
