Duplicate content may not punish search results
Writing on Search Engine Land, Jill Whelan reports "that there is no such thing as a search engine penalty for duplicate content".
She advised: "Duplicate content probably won't show up in searches, but that's not the same thing as a penalty."
Ms Whelan added that search engines generate as much unique content in their results as possible and as a result those who find their copy has been repeated may discover themselves "filtered" towards the bottom of search rankings.
Overall, she advised that the best way to improve SEO and attract users was for companies to generate fresh and original content on their websites.
"The bottom line is that the engines are actively seeking out lousy content and removing it from their main results. If this sounds like your site, don't be surprised to wake up one day and find you've lost some or all of your rankings," she warned.
Writing on E-consultancy, Ken McGaffin claimed issuing a press release online can help marketers boost their SEO as it is likely to generate a large number of incoming links from websites which are considered to be of high quality by search engines.
