Mix of marketing techniques can attract users
Internet marketers should use a variety of techniques if they are to attract users and generate sales, an industry expert has advised.

Member of the Search Engine Marketing Professional Organisation Greg Jarboe suggested that combining the likes of email advertising, pay-per-click techniques (PPC) and search engine optimisation (SEO) can help advertisers improve their inflow of traffic.

Mr Jarboe claimed that online marketers should be "doing multiple things to get better natural results" as 70 per cent of all online traffic is generated by natural search and 30 per cent via PPC.

"They [internet advertisers] can't just throw a couple of header tags around certain keywords any more and expect to get significant traffic", he said.

His comments follow research by Internet Retailer indicating that search engine marketing drives more than 50 per cent of sales for a third of respondents.

The study also revealed that 58.5 per cent of advertisers surveyed intend to increase spend on paid search techniques over the course of 2007.

Writing on Internet Search Engine Database last week, Brandon Cornett claimed an SEO system developed around blogging, link-building, and content development can help increase search rankings.
