SEO is crucial for website accessibility, expert claims
Creating accessible websites is 'crucial' for firms looking to increase their search engine optimisation (SEO) rankings, claims an internet expert.

According to practice leader for Bloor Research, Peter Abrahams, creating a website that search engine spiders are able to read is vital if advertisers wish to do well in search results.

Writing on IT Director, he said: "External search engines should give the user the page that is most relevant to their request. Internal search engines should be tuned to ensure that the most relevant page is presented."

He added businesses should consider the words and phrases users might enter in search engines and look to integrate these throughout their website.

Mr Abrahams also claimed that making websites accessible via SEO can also help attract people with disabilities as they sometimes take longer to surf the internet.

"This means that search engine optimisation is part of making a site more accessible."

According to a report by Captivate Digital, Irish firms are not making the best use of SEO, with 53 per cent of leading firms not appearing in top five search engine results based on keyword searches.
