Paid advertising may be best way to attract high spending consumers
According to JupiterResearch, American users with a household income of at least $100,000 (£51,000) spend more time online than anyone else.
However, as more affluents were generally found to use the internet for business and work-related purposes, JupiterResearch claimed marketers wishing to attract these high-spending consumers should look away from display advertising.
Analyst Mark Best said: "If you're marketing to affluents, it should be about search advertising and giving people resources so they can find information online rather than banner ads and pop-up ads."
The report also suggested posting product reviews on companies' websites and making content available on social media sites would be beneficial in attracting higher spending consumers.
Last month, Google's Susan Minniear advised firms to invest in paid search advertising, even if their brand term ranks highly in keyword searches, as it help them to take full control of their marketing campaign.
