The UK football betting brands AI recommends most, and where the opportunities are

A deep dive into how ChatGPT recommends UK football betting brands, who’s ahead, and where the openings sit.

TL;DR

  • Bet365 takes 18.8% of all UK football betting brand mentions in ChatGPT. William Hill 5.4%. Both finish #1 and #2 in every week we tracked.
  • Five brands trade positions 3 to 7: Ladbrokes, Paddy Power, Betfred, Sky Bet and Betfair. The order changes. The pool doesn’t.
  • BetMGM sits at #8 with 3.2%. That’s roughly where a newer entrant should be. The work now is moving up the order.
  • 82% of football AI recommendations go to operators. 18% to intermediaries. Oddschecker alone takes 4.0%.

What we measured

We ran 132 football betting queries through ChatGPT across five collection dates over several weeks. The queries cover the commercial questions a UK customer actually asks: best football betting app, best odds for the Premier League, most reliable UK bookmaker, and so on.

For each answer, we logged every brand ChatGPT mentioned. We then calculated each brand’s share of all football brand mentions.

That’s what the percentages in this piece refer to. When we say bet365 holds 18.8% of AI recommendations, we mean 18.8% of every brand mention ChatGPT made across 132 football betting queries and 5 weeks.

Bet365 and William Hill are embedded at the top

Across every week we tracked, two brands never moved from the top two positions.

Bet365 at 18.8%. William Hill at 5.4%.

That consistency tells us something. AI models have enough independent content about both brands, reviews, comparison articles, news coverage, forum discussions, app store presence, to name them without hesitation. The signal is strong enough that no single update flips the ranking.

If you’re bet365 or William Hill, that’s a defensive moat.

If you’re not, the moat isn’t permanent. The AI recommendation market is still young. The brands that invest now in the signals AI uses, independent editorial presence, structured content, and earned media in the right places will have an advantage. Early movers set the tone for the category. The brands that wait will find the leaders entrenched.

Big opportunities sit in positions 3 to 7

Beneath the top two, five brands share the next five spots:

  • Paddy Power (4.4%)
  • Ladbrokes (4.4%)
  • Betfred (4.1%)
  • Sky Bet (3.7%)
  • Betfair (3.2%)

These five rotate between positions 3 and 7 depending on the query and the week. Sometimes Paddy Power is third. Sometimes Betfred is. The order shifts. The pool doesn’t.

This is where a brand can make meaningful progress. Moving from position 6 to position 3 isn’t a fantasy. It’s a quarter or two of disciplined content and earned media work. And for any brand currently outside this group, it’s the first target. Breaking into the top 7 puts you into AI’s default answer set for commercial football queries.

BetMGM: roughly where you’d expect, with room to climb

BetMGM holds 3.2% of football AI recommendations. That puts it at #8.

For a relatively new UK entrant, that’s about where you’d expect. Traditional brand building takes time to show up in AI, because AI depends on independent third-party content, reviews, editorial mentions, comparison pieces, forum discussions, and that content accumulates gradually.

BetMGM’s UK marketing spend is clearly starting to move the needle. The next level is visible: overtake Betfair, then Sky Bet, then Betfred, and you’re inside the contested top 7. Each move unlocks more presence in AI’s default recommendation set.

The gap between paid media investment and earned media presence is the thing to close. Paid media doesn’t feed AI models. Editorial coverage, reviews, and community mentions do.

Group-level consolidation tells a different story

Individual brand share hides another layer. Look at the group totals and the picture shifts.

Flutter’s combined share across Paddy Power, Sky Bet, and Betfair reaches 16%. That’s comparable to bet365 at 18.8%.

Entain’s combined share across Ladbrokes and Coral sits at around 15%.

If you’re a group marketing director with multiple brands, your aggregate position is stronger than any single brand’s share would suggest. The AI conversation about UK football betting is concentrated in three brand families: bet365, Flutter’s three, and Entain’s two. Together, they take roughly half of all football AI mentions.

For brands outside those three families, the competitive job is different, but the opportunity is still there. The remaining 50% is distributed across a wider field, and it’s where the positions 3 to 7 contest plays out.

The 82/18 split, and what Oddschecker means for operators

Operators take 82% of football AI recommendations. Intermediaries take 18%.

That’s a healthier split than horse racing, which we’ll cover in our horse racing betting AI research. Operators still own the conversation in football. But the 18% isn’t trivial.

Oddschecker takes 4.0% of recommendations. To put that in perspective: Oddschecker is mentioned by ChatGPT in football contexts more often than any single operator below Betfred. More than Sky Bet. More than Betfair. More than BetMGM.

If AI sends a customer to Oddschecker, the next click is shaped by Oddschecker’s page layout and commercial relationships. That’s worth thinking about if you’re an operator looking to reduce reliance on comparison sites for top-of-funnel traffic.

Three moves football marketers should make this quarter

First, audit your content against the queries AI is actually answering in football. Not the keywords you rank for on Google. The commercial questions your customers ask ChatGPT: best football betting app, best odds for the Premier League, most reliable UK bookmaker. Each has a short AI answer list. You’re either on it, or you aren’t.

Second, map your earned-media gap. Which third-party UK sites mention you in football contexts, and which mention your competitors more? Comparison sites, industry publications, expert picks columns, and community forums. This is where AI gets its signal. If you’re invisible there, you’re invisible in AI.

Third, track your football AI share of voice weekly. The ranking is stable at the top but active in positions 3 to 7. Brands that move up do so gradually. You won’t see the movement unless you’re measuring it.

Each of these is a discipline in its own right. We help UK betting brands run all three: the content audit against AI-surfaced queries, the earned-media gap analysis, and the ongoing AI share of voice tracking that shows whether the work is moving you up the order.
