Massachusetts pushes back iLottery launch to 2026

The Massachusetts Lottery is going online – just a little later than planned.

Originally, reports said that it would take 16 months for the online lottery platform to be up and running, setting expectations for a launch date around December 2025.

But in the last few weeks, those plans have changed.

With funding delays pushing back the timeline for the launch of iLottery in Massachusetts, new estimates say that the platform is now targeting a launch date of April 2026 – a five-month shift from the previous timeline.

This may come as disappointing news, with over a year now to wait before the launch of the Massachusetts Lottery’s online platform. The delay isn’t necessarily all bad, however.

While the state waits for the necessary funding to design and implement its online lottery system, it has more time to take learning from the experiences of other state lotteries that made the move to digital.

What this should mean is that when the iLottery site is launched, it will be a smooth and reliable system. One notable feature will be measures to ensure that players are located within the state, as well as setting maximum spending limits to promote safer gambling practices.

In the meantime, state residents have some alternatives while they wait, including the official Massachusetts Lottery app which is available on both iOS and Android. This allows players to scan their tickets, claim prizes online, and enter second-chance drawings.

When the Massachussets iLottery does eventually launch, it will join a relatively select club of states that offer online lottery games to residents – in comparison to the larger number that allow sports betting.

With online betting and iGaming regulations shifting across the United States, as well as the latest change in the political landscape, more states look set to follow their lead in the coming years. This makes the US iLottery market prime for significant potential growth as previously untapped states open up for business.
