Receptional Supports Brain Tumour Charity Trek to Iceland

The team at Receptional are just some of the hundreds of individuals who have supported a Bedfordshire resident taking part in a five day trek across Iceland for charity.

Jennifer McCrea, 22, from Luton, walked over 50 miles across mountains, volcanoes, geysers, hot springs and lakes in Iceland in a bid to raise money for the Brain Tumour Charity.

At the young age of 14, Jennifer was diagnosed with having an incurable Oligodrendronglioma Grade II tumour, belonging to a group of tumours called Gliomas which develop from the cells that make up the fatty nerve cells in the brain.

For five days, Jennifer walked through the Iceland without electricity, running water or any luxuries in order to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity, which will fund more medical research and offer support to those who have been affected by the condition.

Members of staff at Reception have, along with other supporters, helped raise over £6,000 which will go to the charity on behalf of the Jennifer Amy Fund: a funding group set up by the Jennifer and her family shortly having a craniotomy and partial resection operation. This money, and the other donations secured by the Jennifer’s 16 companions taking part in the trek make a grand total of £60,000.

Jennifer said: “This kind of generosity from the team at Receptional has meant that I, and the 16 other participants, have reached our goal. The money raised will go on to fund a further 240 days of brain tumour research.”

“Tumours like mine are the biggest cancer killer in people under the age of 40 and we rely heavily on public donations which will help researchers into how we can double survival rates and halve the harm. Without selfless donations like these, we would be no closer to finding a cure for these devastating brain tumours.

Jennifer continues to seek donations for her cause. Click the link and donate now.
